Mary Yoke has a Masters Degree in Exercise
Physiology, two degrees in music, and holds
19 certifications: three from ACSM, the
others from organizations such as AFAA, ACE,
NASM, PMA, Stott, Physical-Mind, Yogafit,
and Johnny G. Spinning. She is an adjunct
professor at Adelphi University in New York
where she has authored numerous group
exercise research studies and teaches a
graduate course in functional anatomy and
exercise leadership. She continues to teach
a variety of group exercise classes and
train clients in both traditional fitness
and on Pilates equipment.
She is in demand as a presenter and is known
as the “trainer’s trainer”, as she travels
internationally and throughout the country
leading workshops for fitness professionals.
Additionally, she presents popular seminars
on health and wellness to the general
public. She has frequently served as a
fitness video consultant and reviewer (for
SHAPE, Consumer Reports, and Good
Housekeeping), and has served as an expert
witness in lawsuits involving injuries
related to fitness videos.
Mary has worked in the areas of Cardiac
Rehab, Physical Therapy, and corporate
fitness and health promotion, served on the
Advisory Board for ACSM’s Health & Fitness
Journal, and served 6 years on ACSM’s
Credentialing committee. She is on AFAA’s
adjunct board and is a featured presenter
and Master Trainer for AFAA. Mary is the
author of four books: A Guide to Personal
Fitness Training, 1996, 2001, Functional
Exercise Progressions, 2004, Methods of
Group Exercise Leadership, 2005, and
Personal Fitness Training: Theory and
Practice, 2006;
her first book sold over 85,000 copies and
her third book is in use at over 45
universities! She has also starred in six
videos, including one video for AFAA and two
videos for ACE.
